I don’t usually go for government/Hallmark created faux holidays but there are some genuinely nice events going on in the area this weekend. I just added some new stuff to the Events Calendar so please pore through whilst you double-dunk your biscotti.
If you just want to stay local the Oak Grove school (next to Ranch House) will be hosting Earth Play, the official Earth Day celebration of Ojai. There will be live entertainment, food, exhibits, art, activities for the kiddies and general fun mayhem for attendees of all ages. Many local non profits and friends of the Rambler will be in attendance including OVLC, Ojai Green Coalition, Surfrider Foundation, Los Padres Forestwatch, Sierra Club not to mention a number of local green businesses. 11am to 4pm tomorrow (Saturday), Ojai Trolley will be providing free rides.
For those of you heading to the coast the brand spanking new Ventura Botanical Garden will have it’s coming out festival. There will be activities for the children and workshops for the parents, vendors selling plants, food for sale and music by the Iron Mountain Boys bluegrass band. Workshops of note for Ramblers are at 9:30am “California Native Plants for your Garden” with Laura Bauer and 1:30 pm “Biological Control for the Home Gardeners”… attack of the ladybugs!!! 15 bucks for adults, kids under 12 free with paid adult. Behind Ventura City Hall, 501 Poli Street.
On Sunday Lanny of Herb Walk international fame will be doing something a little different. For those of you like me who hate popping pills for every ache itch and sniffle, Lanny and Dr. Fred Siciliano will be presenting “Medicinal Herb Preparation in the Kitchen”. Learn how to make body cleansing “salads, soups and decoctions” using many locally sourced herbs and vegetables. At the Ojai Wesleyan Church 2-4pm, $35 dollars will get you all the plant materials and handouts. Contact Lanny to register.
Finally, the wife had a friend in town last weekend who is a real photographer, she did our wedding actually. Well she takes really, really good pictures. No, I’m not bitter. These are from Cluff Vista Park, did you know we hard our own little native plant garden right in downtown Ojai?
Have a great weekend everyone, spring is in full glory so get out there before summer starts walloping us on a daily basis.
