Mid-Week Mystery

It’s been a long time since we’ve been stumped so I thought I’d throw this out there for the general populace.  The divine Sarah T. found this pudgy pod up in Santa Barbara.  When she cut it open it leaked milky latex substance.  Looked like something in the clematis family to me, she thought it was a gourd of some sort.  Anyone want to chime in?

Oh, and she wanted me to make a point that it was dehiscent…  which means its spews its seeds forth, arcing through the air in a grand swan dive before finding purchase in some fecund nook.

I’m counting on you, don’t let us down.

  1. Aha….we’ve got Araujia sericifera, White bladderflower. Aggressive vine in the Milkweed family originally from South America. Something to keep the look out for and promptly destroy.
