Spring Bloom Roundup/Rambler B-Day Hootenanny

Yeah, I’m as excited as you are.  I’m not hiking today but I do plan on massacring an obscene slab of cake.

I just had a gander at the handy-dandy event calendar and tomorrow has some events which demand your attention and possible participation.

Lanny will be heading up the Sespe River from the Piedra Blanca lot.  A friend of mine was up there last week and said the water is low but still present, and there are literally zillions of these:

Howard Creek 2009

Howard Creek 2009

No not dogs silly, Penstemon heterophyllus, Foothill Penstemon.  So cool, someone send me a pic please.

Allen Bertke will be leading an Audubon Society beginner bird walk on Canada Larga Road.  Some very uninteresting trivia, we got Luke at the ranch at the end of Canada Larga Road, any time I go down there he gets nervous that we’re sending him back.

Finally Joel “The Beard” Robinson will be leading a hike of the Santa Clara River for all you Venturans and coast people scared to come up 33.

Now for your viewing pleasure I’ve been saving up pictures the last month and I shall now regurgitate them all for you like a dutiful mama bird.  Many of these are long gone; oh the powers of nostalgia.

As a New Yorker you may be familiar with the Entemanns chocolate chip crumb loaf (with the powdered sugar). They don’t sell it on this coast for some reason, but Elisa makes a superb homemade version.

    Happy Birthday Ron!
